Development Engineer / Lead Designer – Planetary Gearbox

About the role

Join Bosch’s gearbox development team in Budapest as a Development Engineer and Lead Designer for planetary gearboxes. You will drive the concept, design, and industrialisation of high‑performance planetary gear systems used in a variety of applications.

Key responsibilities

• Define planetary gear architectures (e.g., Ravigneaux, Lepelletier, Simpson) based on ratio, torque, and space requirements.
• Perform detailed analytical calculations for tooth stresses, bearing loads and component deformations.
• Optimise tooth geometry (profile shift, helix angle, pressure angle) for NVH, efficiency and durability.
• Select appropriate materials and heat‑treatment processes for gears and carriers.
• Lead 3D CAD modelling, create detailed drawings and ensure manufacturability and assembly readiness.
• Collaborate with subsystem managers (actuators, bearings, housing) to guarantee seamless integration.
• Review and approve designs, conduct root‑cause analysis and troubleshoot gearbox issues.
• Monitor market trends in planetary gear technology and manufacturing processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in gearbox or planetary gear development.
• Proven expertise in industrialisation of gears, spline connections, shafts, bearings and freewheels.
• Strong knowledge of machining, turning, milling, heat‑ and surface‑treatment, and hard machining.
• Systematic, structured working style and ability to lead technical discussions.
