Engineering Manager - AI-Native Software Delivery

About the role

TOPdesk builds service management software used across education, healthcare, government and manufacturing, with 800+ colleagues in 11 offices worldwide. As an Engineering Manager you lead one or two teams with a specific technical mission (front-end, middleware, back-end, data or platform), giving people and technical direction and owning what your teams ship. You set team-level technical direction within architectural guardrails, grow engineers into senior and staff engineers, and lead the AI-native SDLC yourself. You report to your domain's senior engineering leader.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical direction and standards for your domain, make and steward key technical decisions, and contribute to architecture with the Enterprise Architects.
• Coach and develop engineers, including growing them into senior and staff roles, and hire with clarity and care.
• Own your teams' roadmap commitments and delivery outcomes, protecting cycle time, quality and stability.
• Keep reviews sustainable in an agentic SDLC, matching agent autonomy to task risk and keeping human accountability clear.
• Build and share subagents, evals and patterns, and contribute them back to shared libraries.
• Stay technically close through design, pairing, incident response, reviews and technical investigation.

Required profile

• Engineering manager with a track record of growing engineers and owning team delivery.
• Strong technical foundation in a relevant domain, with current personal practice of AI-native software delivery (Claude Code or equivalent).
• Strong on talent development, comfortable in ambiguity and legacy codebases, and a strong communicator.
• Nice to have: led a team through a major technical or operating-model change, built and shared subagents or evals, deep domain expertise.

The team sits within an engineering organisation of about 170 people across Delft, Budapest and Kaiserslautern. The tech stack is Python, TypeScript, Vue, Postgres, Azure, Kubernetes and Terraform, alongside legacy Java and MS SQL being decomposed.
