Lead Business Intelligence Consultant

About the role

DEPT's Data & AI practice is looking for a Lead Business Intelligence Consultant in Budapest. The role leads the BI capability across Europe, sets standards for how BI is delivered, delivers complex client solutions and grows the BI team. It combines deep BI expertise with business acumen and leadership skills, and works closely with clients to turn their needs into usable dashboards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the strategic development of the BI proposition and capabilities across Europe
• Set standards and best practices: methodology, data modelling, dashboard design, documentation and reusable components
• Guide, coach and mentor BI consultants through development plans, feedback and performance conversations
• Build and grow the BI team, owning hiring from defining the profile to onboarding
• Serve as senior authority on client engagements: lead discovery workshops, review data models and dashboard concepts, and advise clients on BI strategy, tooling and data maturity
• Oversee reliable data integrations and data models serving management and specialist users
• Work with the broader Data & AI practice and DEPT service teams across Europe
• Support business development through BI expertise in pitches, scoping and estimates, and grow BI work in existing accounts
• Stay ahead of emerging tools and automate how the team builds and runs reporting

Required profile

• Extensive experience in a data role (e.g. BI Consultant, Data Analyst, Data Specialist, Marketing Analyst) and a proven track record of leading complex BI initiatives
• Strong leadership experience guiding and developing a team of consultants
• Experience with data analysis tools (e.g. Python, R, SPSS) and an understanding of marketing data such as campaign performance, attribution and website tracking
• Strong grasp of data quality and governance
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex data concepts to business stakeholders and hold their own in senior client conversations
• Ability to mentor talent and work with colleagues and clients across countries and time zones
• Experience in an agency or consulting environment is highly advantageous

Required skills

• Data modelling and transformation, including strong SQL (e.g. star schemas)
• Reporting tools: PowerBI, Looker Studio, Looker or Tableau
• Strategic thinking to develop and execute a BI roadmap
