Principal Engineer – Data Platform (Identity Solutions)

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the Identity Solutions Data Platform, the engine behind its Identity Graph and Identity Network. The platform processes terabytes of data and billions of records daily to detect and prevent fraud worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Assess existing data pipelines against cost, efficiency, and reliability targets.
• Prototype and validate new solutions, measuring results against defined KPIs.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to build a compelling case for change.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership, setting engineering quality standards and mentoring senior engineers.
• Identify gaps in development practices and drive evidence‑based improvements.
• Maintain alignment of the platform with Mastercard’s broader technology ecosystem and anticipate partner team needs.

Required profile

• Proven track record delivering complex, large‑scale systems.
• Deep experience designing and operating data processing pipelines at scale.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS), security, and reliability engineering.
• Hands‑on expertise with Spark and Databricks, and proficiency in Scala or Java (Python a plus).
• Ability to prototype technical proposals, define measurable success criteria, and communicate decisions clearly.
• Familiarity with machine‑learning workflows, including feature engineering and model training.
