Senior Databricks Data Engineer

About the role

Hiflylabs, a Budapest-based company with 250+ employees, offers a full-time Senior Databricks Data Engineer position. The company delivers data warehouses, business intelligence and data analytics solutions and has 10 years of experience in BI projects across Hungary and abroad.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement scalable lakehouse solutions on Databricks across Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Build and optimise modular data pipelines with Delta Lake, and implement data governance and secure access via Unity Catalog.
• Write clean SQL and Python in Databricks Notebooks and IDEs, and automate with the Databricks CLI and REST APIs.
• Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD) using Declarative Automation Bundles, and orchestrate pipelines with Databricks Workflows or Spark Declarative Pipelines.
• Integrate with cloud storage and identity services (AWS S3/IAM, Azure ADLS/Entra ID, GCS/IAM) and design SQL Warehouses.
• Own the technical aspects of deliveries, take part in planning, estimation and testing, liaise with business stakeholders and write technical documentation.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of hands-on data engineering experience focused on Databricks Lakehouse architecture.
• Proven delivery of at least one complex, scalable data solution using Unity Catalog, Delta Lake and Databricks SQL.
• Strong experience running Databricks in at least one major cloud environment (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Native Hungarian and excellent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SQL and Python, with hands-on use of AI coding assistants (Databricks Assistant, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code).
• Declarative Automation Bundles (DABs) and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD) with Git.
• Bonus: dbt (dbt-databricks), Databricks AI/ML and GenAI tools (Mosaic AI, MLflow, Feature Store), and Apache Spark.
