Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby, Kotlin) – Voyager Team

About the role

Bridge is a global team of engineers, product managers, designers and program managers helping organisations build work cultures where people thrive. Its core product is a Ruby on Rails monolith, while the future is being built in Kotlin and Spring Boot. As a member of the Voyager Team, you will be the guardian of this core: understanding its complexity, fixing critical issues and ensuring new features integrate seamlessly.

The role is fully remote, based in Budapest, and open to candidates living in Hungary with the right to work there. English is the working language (B1 or higher); Hungarian (B1 or higher) is essential.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the complex Ruby on Rails web application, which takes up about 60% of your time.
• Develop Java or Kotlin Spring Boot REST APIs, about 40% of your time.
• Integrate new features, written in either Kotlin or Ruby, into the existing ecosystem.
• Work with PostgreSQL, AWS Aurora RDS clusters, Apache Pulsar messaging, Debezium ETL pipelines, AWS Neptune and OpenSearch.
• Use CI/CD with GitHub Actions and Spinnaker, monitoring with DataDog, Terraform, and occasionally React and TypeScript.

Required profile

• Experience dealing with complex, undocumented legacy codebases and surviving production crises.
• Ability to see the big picture and connect legacy logic to modern microservices.
• Broad experience with different technology stacks and a direct, honest way of communicating.
• Currently residing in Hungary with the legal right to work there.
