Senior Solutions Architect - Databricks (Europe-based Contractor)

About the role

Hiflylabs, a European data consultancy with over 250 experts, is hiring a full-time, remote Senior Solutions Architect as a contractor. You will support Fortune 500 customers with architecture, design and implementation of big data solutions on the Databricks platform, with a significant time-zone overlap with clients. The role is remote, with rare exceptions agreed in advance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide post-sales technical leadership to strategic customers, guiding them from architectural design through data engineering to model deployment.
• Identify and drive new initiatives that turn customer data into business value, aligned with their goals.
• Architect production workloads, including performance testing and optimization of end-to-end pipelines.
• Deliver tutorials and training sessions, including hackathons and conference presentations, to promote community adoption.

Required profile

• Over 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer or Data Engineer, including query tuning, performance tuning, troubleshooting and debugging of Spark and other big data solutions.
• Proven experience designing and implementing big data technologies such as Hadoop, NoSQL, MPP, OLTP and OLAP.
• Customer-facing experience in pre-sales, post-sales, technical architecture guidance or consulting.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort presenting to strategic stakeholders and leadership.
• Desired: Data Science/ML engineering experience, including model selection, lifecycle, hyper-parameter tuning, model serving and deep learning with tools such as MLFlow.

Required skills

• Hands-on Apache Spark and Databricks, including several large-scale projects.
• Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional certification.
• Python, Scala or Java.
• Cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• CI/CD, unit and integration testing, automation and orchestration, REST APIs, BI tools and SQL interfaces (e.g. Jenkins).
