Backend Engineer – Feature Platform

About the role

Wise is building a centralized feature engineering platform to detect financial crime. As a Backend Engineer you will design, develop and operate high‑performance services that generate real‑time fraud and AML signals for millions of transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop scalable, low‑latency backend services in Java and Python to process streaming data from Kafka, Spark and Flink.
• Collaborate with data scientists and product teams to create and govern new risk features, ensuring consistency across the platform.
• Drive adoption of the platform by integrating existing risk logic from multiple Wise teams.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience with Java 11+ (preferably Java 21+).
• Strong problem‑solving mindset, ownership and ability to work end‑to‑end on complex distributed systems.
• Experience delivering reliable services in a micro‑services architecture.
