Senior Database Administrator

About the role

SEON provides a fraud‑prevention and AML compliance platform used by thousands of companies worldwide. We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to operate and scale our database platforms as our products and data continue to grow. The role is based in Budapest with a hybrid schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and scale database platforms handling terabytes of data.
• Design scalable, reliable database architectures for various workloads and availability requirements.
• Support and optimise PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, ClickHouse, and YugabyteDB.
• Troubleshoot database issues and query‑performance bottlenecks across large datasets.
• Improve schema design, data structures, migrations, and change‑management processes.
• Partner with development teams during design and delivery to ensure robust solutions.
• Assess and communicate technical risks and trade‑offs in database decisions.
• Contribute to monitoring, observability, security, backup, and recovery practices.
• Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation.
• Guide team members in using database resources efficiently.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing and administering large‑scale databases (terabytes) with a focus on PostgreSQL.
• Experience managing databases in at least one major cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Deep knowledge of database design, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with multiple database engines and understanding of their operational trade‑offs.
• Familiarity with database development processes, operational best practices, and reliability principles.
• Basic knowledge of Terraform‑managed databases or infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Excellent English communication skills.
