Software Security Engineer

About the role

Itron develops intelligent infrastructure solutions for utilities and cities to manage energy, water and gas. As a Software Security Engineer in Budapest, you will work on software security fault analysis for utility meters, access points and mesh network equipment distributed globally, and help develop security standards within a large multinational corporation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in application security assessments, including white-box and black-box penetration testing, static code analysis and code reviews.
• Help implement security measures in the SDLC and DevOps pipelines.
• Collaborate with product teams and promote a culture of security awareness.
• Research and propose practical mitigation strategies for identified vulnerabilities.
• Contribute to tools that automate and manage security assessment activities.
• Travel up to 20% depending on business needs.

Required profile

• 3 years of experience in application security.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, and to communicate in English, spoken and written.
• Preferred: CISSP or equivalent certification.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of cryptography, network security and security fundamentals (defense-in-depth, CIA).
• Programming in several languages: Java, C# .NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, C/C++.
• Preferred: knowledge of OWASP Top 10 and CWE Top 25, security testing tools, scripting (PowerShell, Bash), Azure DevOps, IoT and container technologies.
