2nd Level Engineer – Backoffice IT Operations

About the role

As a 2nd Level Engineer in Backoffice IT Operations you will ensure the reliability and stability of Shift4's in‑house DBO applications built on .NET, Angular and MSSQL. You will work closely with developers, QA, DevOps and product teams to troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide L2 application support for high‑availability production systems, including Kubernetes‑based workloads.
• Troubleshoot complex incidents using logs, dashboards, metrics, traces and tools such as Splunk and Postman.
• Investigate backend/API problems, event‑driven flows with RabbitMQ, and database issues in MSSQL.
• Maintain runbooks, SOPs and knowledge bases; participate in incident response, root‑cause analysis and post‑incident reviews.
• Create and maintain automation scripts in PowerShell and Bash to reduce manual operations.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in application support or production operations.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a structured incident‑investigation approach.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience working in regulated, high‑availability environments (PCI‑DSS a plus).

Required skills

• .NET services, C# fundamentals, Angular basics.
• PowerShell and Bash scripting.
• REST API testing with Postman.
• MSSQL query writing, debugging and data validation.
• RabbitMQ message‑flow troubleshooting.
• Splunk log analysis and dashboard creation.
• Kubernetes pod diagnostics, probes, scaling and configuration.
• CI/CD concepts, Jenkins pipelines and deployment tooling.
• Security awareness: OWASP, OIDC/OAuth2, secure secret handling.
• Ticketing systems such as Jira, ServiceNow or Xurrent.
• Basic JavaScript debugging using browser developer tools.
• Active Directory and Windows Server administration.
