Programme Management Intern (Counter‑Terrorism)

About the role

This unpaid internship offers a six‑month opportunity to support programme management activities within the Countering Terrorist Travel Section of the United Nations Office of Counter‑Terrorism in Budapest. You will work under the guidance of a staff member, either full‑time (35 hours/week) or part‑time (20 hours/week), in a hybrid or onsite setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing, monitoring and evaluating programme activities, tracking progress and compiling updates.
• Review project documents, reports and background materials, identifying gaps for supervisor consideration.
• Prepare programme‑related materials such as timelines and summaries.
• Attend assigned meetings and produce concise reports.
• Support the organization of desk‑to‑desk meetings with regional actors, civil society, Member States and other entities.
• Facilitate internal coordination and communication among teams and partners.
• Conduct research, collect data and provide analysis from reports, databases and policy documents.
• Assist in situation monitoring and maintain relevant databases.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed the final year of a bachelor’s programme, or a graduate (master’s or Ph.D.) programme.
• Field of study closely related to counter‑terrorism, international security, public policy or programme management.
• Proficiency in English.
