Remote Backend Engineer – Voyager Team (Ruby on Rails)

About the role

Bridge is a global team of engineers, product managers, designers and program managers working across Hungary, the US and other countries, helping organisations build work cultures where people thrive. Its software is used for learning, self-development and career growth. The Voyager Team maintains and evolves the core Ruby on Rails monolith of the platform while the future is being built in Kotlin and Spring Boot. The role is full-time, remote, based in Budapest.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve the core Ruby on Rails web application, which takes up about 60% of the time.
• Develop Java or Kotlin Spring Boot REST APIs, about 40% of the time.
• Integrate new features written in Kotlin, Ruby or TypeScript into the existing system.
• Work with PostgreSQL, AWS services (Aurora RDS, Neptune, OpenSearch), Apache Pulsar messaging and Debezium ETL pipelines.
• Use CI/CD with GitHub Actions and Spinnaker, monitoring with DataDog, Terraform, and frontend React and TypeScript.

Required profile

• Comfortable working in a large, complex codebase and understanding legacy logic.
• Experience with multiple technologies and their trade-offs.
• Direct communicator who welcomes honest, constructive feedback.
• Willingness to attend meetings in the US timezone (late afternoon/early evening CET).
