Senior Software Engineer (Knowledge Base, Agentic Workflows)

About the role

TOPdesk builds service management software used by education, healthcare, government and manufacturing, with more than 10 million users worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer you deliver production work, including legacy modernisation, through agentic workflows inside the team that sets the operating model for the rest of the engineering organisation. You will build and modernise the Knowledge Base, from an accessible user interface to a fast, reliable backend, working with Claude Code as your primary collaborator.

You join team Phoenix, one of the first teams using an AI-native SDLC, reporting to an Engineering Manager. It is cross-functional (back-end, front-end, UX, testing, product) and delivers alongside a UX designer and a Product Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Frame and decompose problems, orchestrate agents to implement them and verify the result
• Build new agentic product capabilities and modernise parts of the legacy Java/MS SQL platform on the modern TS/Vue/Azure stack
• Write implementation briefs and acceptance criteria before invoking agents, curate context and use subagents, MCP tools and CLAUDE.md conventions
• Design verification: tests, runtime checks, migration validation, observability, rollback planning and regression evals
• Review agent-generated work before merge, keeping change sets small and maintainable
• Contribute reusable patterns, subagents and evals to shared libraries and coach colleagues

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in Java
• Strong production engineer with daily, hands-on agentic delivery practice (Claude Code, Cursor, Aider or equivalent)
• Deep software-engineering judgement: strong testing instincts, comfort with operational concerns, able to spot plausible but architecturally wrong or unsafe solutions
• Comfortable in ambiguity and legacy codebases, good written communication

• Nice to have: experience modernising a heritage platform, reusable prompts/subagents/evals, MCP tool integrations, depth across multiple stacks
