Senior Cost & Sustainability Engineer, Mechanical

About the role

HARMAN is looking for a Senior Cost & Sustainability Engineer (Mechanical) in Budapest. The engineer works to achieve profitability, sustainability and growth goals through collaboration with Procurement, Engineering, Customer Account Management, Manufacturing and Suppliers. The role reports to the Cost & Sustainability Engineering Lead and is an individual contributor with no direct or indirect reports.

Key responsibilities

• Build cost and life-cycle CO2e assessment models using internal and external databases, establishing Design-to-Cost and CO2e reduction targets for components, modules and assemblies in HARMAN Automotive products
• Drive HARMAN's best-practice cost, design and CO2e reference to component level: review supplier quote cost breakdowns and analyse cost drivers
• Contribute to the technical definition and implementation of electronic system cost and CO2e modelling solutions, including analytics for trend data
• Build technical relationships with suppliers to identify best cost and design solutions, including emerging technologies
• Work with Engineering and Product Sourcing teams during new business quoting to set reference cost targets and source boards
• Take part in negotiations with target costing and drive category strategy (supplier scouting, benchmarking, purchased part relocation) to meet should-cost targets and best CO2e solutions
• Develop cost engineering infrastructure

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering; Master's degree is nice to have
• At least 6 years of experience in cost engineering of mechanical components and systems, VA/VE of such components, automotive component engineering, automotive procurement and advanced manufacturing engineering
• Experience with factors affecting design for CO2e improvement, complex components and assemblies, and reviewing the work of other cost engineers
• Ability to solve complex technical problems, influence others and present complex topics clearly
• Experience supporting Procurement in supplier negotiations and working in a fast-paced, results-focused environment
• Fluent English; willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally

Nice to have

• 2 years of experience developing cost models for components, modules and assemblies
• Experience with automotive electronic systems and selecting automotive-grade components
• Data analytics experience
