Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

Boam AI is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the technical direction of its Scala and Python data and agent infrastructure. You will own long‑term architecture, scale existing and greenfield services, and ensure data freshness, fast APIs, and smooth customer workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build resilient backend services and APIs.
• Own high‑level system architecture and make major technical decisions across multiple systems.
• Oversee critical data pipelines from ingestion to enrichment to delivery.
• Architect systems for 100x data growth over the next three years.
• Lead cross‑team initiatives and deliver complex projects end‑to‑end.
• Partner with ML leaders on model integration and agent architecture.
• Build reliability and test coverage directly into code.
• Improve performance, scalability, and observability across the stack.

Required profile

• 8+ years building and operating complex production backend systems.
• Deep experience with high‑throughput, large distributed systems.
• Strong experience with Scala, Python, or functional/JVM languages.
• Comfortable with distributed systems, data modeling, and high‑volume pipelines.
• History of providing technical coaching and direction to senior engineers.
• Enjoy greenfield work from first‑principles design to deployment and monitoring.
