Staff Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

About the role

As a Staff Ruby on Rails Engineer at Diligent, you will set technical direction for secure, scalable SaaS applications that power the governance platform. You will own critical systems, partner with product, security and DevOps, and help define a responsible AI strategy across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Champion design, delivery and evolution of secure, scalable Ruby on Rails applications, driving architecture decisions across multiple teams.
• Set technical direction for major projects, from solution design through production ownership, and evolve the technical roadmap.
• Identify systemic pain points, propose architectural improvements, and guide decomposition of monoliths toward service‑oriented or micro‑service patterns.
• Partner with Product, QA, Security and engineering leaders to shape roadmaps, resolve technical ambiguity and ensure compliance.
• Pioneer responsible AI use in engineering workflows, advising on AI‑assisted coding, debugging and monitoring.
• Mentor engineers at all levels, champion code quality, and continuously evaluate new tools and technologies.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience in a commercial environment.
• Expert‑level knowledge of Ruby on Rails and proven delivery of production‑grade backend or full‑stack applications at scale.
• Extensive experience with API and web development, RESTful service design and scalable system architecture.
• Deep understanding of microservices or service‑oriented architectures and distributed systems trade‑offs.
• Practical knowledge of AI model capabilities, prompt engineering and responsible AI use.
• Strong communication skills and proven ability to influence technical direction across cross‑functional teams.
