Test Tooling Engineer

About the role

Formlabs is looking for a Test Tooling Engineer to own the quality and performance signals of PreForm, its desktop 3D printing software. You will build automated testing infrastructure, detect regressions, and ensure a healthy release pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Detect performance regressions by measuring KPIs (startup, upload, print generation, crash rate) in CI with alerting.
• Re‑architect system tests for the PreForm Local API to drive end‑to‑end scenarios headlessly.
• Build and maintain a pipeline that runs large batches of real customer models through slicing and support generation, comparing results against baselines.
• Own crash intelligence: triage Sentry reports, trend issues, and create reproducible crash harnesses.
• Steward test infrastructure, including regression baselines, CI flake management, test runtimes, and golden‑file handling.

Required profile

• Proficient in C++ to write integration and system tests for PreForm internals.
• Strong Python skills for building tooling, pipelines, and result diffing.
• Deep experience with CI systems (Jenkins), test parallelization, and flake management.
• Instinct for observability using Sentry, Amplitude, and performance dashboards.
• Desktop application testing experience (GUI automation on Windows/macOS using Squish or Qt Test).
• Mid‑to‑senior individual contributor capable of defining test strategy independently.
